  • Vigilance of contemplation (2021)

    Installation

By Bruno Mesz, María Zegna and Sebastián Tedesco

    BienalSur, 2021

VdlC is a quadruple network of sniffed contemplations. The women in the portraits of Lía Correa Morales are contemplated via Zoom by other women; both are "monitored" by an emotional recognition algorithm and by the authors, who trans-sensorialize the emotions delivered by the algorithm in perfumes inspired by the aromatic atmospheres of the 1930's. Unlike the static gazes that emerge from the portraits, their dynamic, computationally analyzed contemplation turns out to be almost like a Zen meditation, devoid of emotion. We invite viewers to join this scopic-affective-olfactory framework.

Analysis of facial emotion: Jean-Christophe Sakdavong.

Technical collaborators: Tomás Levita, Victoria Balay.
